Gerard Doris

CEO & Chief Instructor

Director of Child Development & Social-Emotional Learning

Gerard is a highly regarded self-defense instructor with over 20 years of rich experience in various martial arts disciplines, including Krav Maga, Taekwondo, Kali, Escrima, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His journey began at the young age of 17, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 8 years as a Master-At-Arms. His military career involved conducting crucial Anti-Terrorism and Counter-Drug Operations across South America, showcasing his commitment to safety and security.

Following his military service, Gerard worked alongside a joint special operations team, honing his skills as a firearms instructor. His dedication to public safety led him to a significant role with the Department of Defense in New Orleans.

Throughout his career,Gerard has passionately trained hundreds of students, spanning from civilians to law enforcement and military personnel. His expertise encompasses firearms training, tactical operations, and practical self-defense strategies. Today, as the founder of DF6 Defense Academy, he is devoted to empowering individuals of all ages with the skills and confidence necessary to protect themselves and others in real-world situations.

By creating an inclusive environment, Gerard fosters a sense of community and belonging, ensuring that every student feels valued and supported on their self-defense journey. With an emphasis on social-emotional learning, he equips participants not only with physical techniques but also with the mental resilience needed to face challenges head-on. Professor Jabari Walker

Lead Instructor

Jabari is a highly respected Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Professor with over 15 years of dedicated practice and instruction.

Recognized as a leader in the martial arts community, he is known for his innovative approach, incorporating movement and mobility principles to enhance student longevity and well-being.

Jabari is passionate about empowering both youth and adults in New Orleans to become confident and skilled practitioners.

Alicia Walker

Self-Defense Specialist

With a genuine passion for helping others succeed, she is dedicated to guiding individuals toward achieving their ultimate goals.

Alicia’s expertise and experience empower our members to overcome challenges, build confidence, and unlock their full potential.

Her positive attitude and unwavering support make her a trusted mentor in our community.

Afton Johnson

Assistant Instructor

Afton has spent many years studying and teaching self-defense. She holds certification through Israeli Krav International (IKI) and is a survivor of domestic violence.

Over the years, Afton has led self-defense training for law enforcement, security professionals, and civilians domestically and internationally.

At DF6 Defense Academy, she teaches classes rooted in confidence, empowerment, and real-world readiness, helping students who walk through the door feel stronger and safer.

Andrew Mink

Assistant Instructor

Andrew is a first degree black belt in American Karate. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Andrew has been training in martial arts for over 15 years. Additionally, he has extensive knowledge in children’s education and holds a teaching certificate in the state of Louisiana. He has lived in New Orleans for the past five years.

When he isn’t in the dojo or the classroom, you can find Andrew losing his voice watching live music.
